Chilipoker New Software P(r)eview 0

Monday November 2nd, 2009 at 2:37 pm

A new version of Chilipoker will soon be available, and I have the pleasure of spending the rest of the day giving you one of my world famous reviews. I must say it’s a upgrade worth talking about, as each new feature makes the software much more user friendly and fun to use. Grasping the better elements of the software could virtually improve your profitability, as table section is an important part of online poker.

stats May I remind you that Chilipoker also offers a Free Poker Statistics Tracker for all its players. Players can access it by visiting the Chilipoker Website and clicking on the My Account >> My Stats link.

You can break down the stats into Cashgame, SnG, Tournament or Frequent Player Points.

Did you know? In cashgame we measure the ratio of the Big Bet (BB) for each 100 hands. A Big Bet is twice the amount of the big blind. The BB/100 measures your success rate regardless of the table stake at which you play. In SnG and in MTT we use the Return of Investment (ROI). This enables you to check how much your return is for each $1 investment.

Ok, so back to the software preview. First thing we are going to cover is the new top drop down menu:

menu

Once you have logged in you will notice the My Account will become active. Click on the My Account link and you will go to the cashier for a look at your VIP level, FPP Points Balance, Bonuses, Cash, Tournament and Transaction History and a list of settings. Obviously you can also make a deposit or a withdrawal from the cashier screen.

AvatarsThe options drop down menu has a list of options that you can turn on an off. You can also use this screen to choose your iPoker avatar, or you can just turn the off the avatars by un-selecting the show avatars screen. The View Hand Strength option displays your hand strength on-screen as each hand progresses. You can also turn off/on the all in percentage monitor, several chat options are also available including a useful new side chat option (see below). Some prefer to use the show folded cards option, or the 4 color deck.

For all you cash game players, use the table action menu to set up your auto top-up or control you system settings, audio settings or casino games options from the same screen. For all of you the enjoy playing on a big screen why not turn on the enable full screen mode and a nice side chat for better view at whats going on at the Chilipoker tables. (See picture below)

Sidechat Right next to the options menu you will find a promotions menu with a list of our most current promotions (and you know how good we are at that). A very useful option is the search player option where you can tag your mates as buddies and find them at the iPoker tables. The search for player function is excellent for a poker player / poker mentor relationship.

Simply use the search player function to search for a Chilipoker Nickname then double click on the table he/she is on and start watching all the action….

For support help click on the contact us, live chat or telephone options on the top of the screen. You should also notice the server time on the top right hand corner of the screen. Which will help you plan your next tournament. For example my local time says 17:11 and the server time says 16:11 so I can expect a 1 hour time difference when looking for the next satellite or tournament I’m looking to play.

Already you will notice that the Chilipoker client is more user friendly then most, but just wait until you see the next round of features in the Chilipoker client lobby.

The Poker Lobby, Quick Seat, My Favorites, Game Filters, Table Selection & Much Much More
!
The quick seat option is a 5 step selection process for finding a seat:

quickStep 1 Cash Games or Tournament?
Step 2 Texas Holdem or Omaha?
Step 3 No limit, Pot Limit or Fixed?
Step 4 Select a stake…
Step 5 Select the Maximum Amount Of Players  2, 6, 10

In my opinion one of the best features of the new software us is the Filter, simply choose what type of game you are looking for including NL, PL, Fixed and the stake you want to play at including Micro, Medium, or High. The Hide Full option will remove tables that are full, our tournaments that have started  or finished. On the left of the screen you will find options to have the lobby displayed in 2 columns or 3 columns.

Have you noticed the new icons in the lobby that describe the type of game available?

gameplayTournaments come in several different formats and structures, including short, deep and super stackTurbo Tournaments and Super Turbo Tournaments are a much quicker game of poker, the blinds increase rapidly, and are not the type of tournaments for the faint hearted. Rebuy tournaments are for the well stacked players, everyone tends to throw chips away in the first hour, simply because they want a larger stack and everyone is able to Rebuy or Double Rebuy with less then 1500 chips. If this doesn’t sound like your game then a Freezeout Tournament may be what your looking for.

The most juicy Tournaments are the regular Guaranteed Prize Pool or GP events, which can easily be found under the tournaments tab in the lobby. Just don’t miss the biggest event online European Championship of Online Poker (ECOOP) with a monster $4,550,000 guaranteed prize and Chilipoker’s very own $1,000,000 guaranteed.

For all you guessing, Freeroll and Frequent Player Point (FPP) tournaments can be played for free or with some points that you have earned. If you really want to show off your poker skills, Satellite tournaments are a great way to win some big cash with a little amount of money. To get into a large tournament start from a stage III satellite and work your way up to a stage II or stage I or buy yourself  directly into a super satellite.

To get familiar with the software, beginners
may select from Real money or Play money games. Private tournament you will need a password for.

Now if you are in 2 column view when you click once on a table it expands and gives you further information, for example on a cash table the amount of Chips in play and a list of how many players are waiting. Join a waiting list will alert you when a seat becomes available, otherwise click the join table to get seated. Again double clicking on a table will open up the table, then simply find a seat open to get seated.

iconsOn the other hand if you are viewing tournaments in 2 column lobby, clicking once on a tournament will display a short description of the tournament or how many players (SNG) or time (MTT) is needed before the event starts.

Usually, when I am looking for a particular event,  I sort the list by one of the following:

Name - the name of the tournament alphabetically
Currency - the currency at table, $, £ or €
Type - the type of poker game, holdem or omaha
Start - the start time, latest first
Plrs - the number of players at a tournament
Status - Upcoming, registering, finished

Now that you are familiar with the Chilipoker Lobby, from here you should easier to find the game you are looking for. Game selection is fundamental and can make a big difference in your bankroll. Choose an event within your bankroll and you will enjoy poker much more, and make more money!

Using the Tournament Lobby & Hand History while your playing is a good idea!
Finding the tournament lobby is easy, either click on a tournament while in the poker lobby then click on the Tournament Lobby or while in a game press on the menu button then on the lobby button. In the tournament lobby you will find the name of the players registered and chip counts details Prize Info such as:

tournament-lobbyCurrent Prizepool
Current Places Paid
Total buy-ins
Total add-ons
Payout Structure

A full description of the event is available, and all the possible details such as registration times, min players, rebuy costs, how many add on and rebuy chips you get, players at the table, starting stack, rebuy costs, and the number of satellite seats available. Click on the Levels Tab to review the blinds and break details and the duration of each level.

Looking at the tournament lobby gives you a better understanding of how you are sitting at a particular tournament, while playing an event look at the lobby to find details such as the average chip count, how many players are left, and what position you are currently in. This should give you a better understanding and a bigger picture of what’s going on, and how you should play.

All the tabs in the tournament menu can be sorted so you can easily list players by position, nickname or by chip count. On the bottom of the tournament screen you will find a list of Satellites leading up to this event. You have the time? Why pay the full price when you can win a seat for a big tournament by satillite…

Sitting Down. Hand History, Table Stats & Choosing your Table Options
seatedAs you are getting seated down at a table you will notice some options, such as the amount you would like to buy-in for (Cash) and your top up options. Furthermore, the sit out, auto muck, fold any bet and auto post check boxes. You can also find a button on the top right hand corner that will take you from Full Table View
to Mini Table View, the mini table view is used for playing more then one table at once or multi tabling up to 16 tables.

Once you have been seated, click on the stats button to display you personal statistics for the particular table. Use the stats to analyze your play:

Session Duration - the length of time you have played
Flops Seen – the number of flops you have seen
Hand Won – the number of hands you have won
Seen Flops Won – how many flops seen won
Seen Blinds Won – how many blinds seen won
Action Stats – how many times did you fold, check, check raise, call, bet, raise and re-raise in a session
Fold Stats – when did you fold? preflop, flop, turn, river, no fold
Win Stats
– when did you win? preflop, flop, turn, river, showdown

While you are at a table you can create a note on any player, simply by clicking on his name. A great way to keep track of a players range, moves or poker play. Stats become very useful as you will start to notice new notes that you have taken about players every time you play. Better still players may click on the history button to see all the previous hand history, bets and showdowns. Constantly analyzing your play will improve your game in the long run.

I hope you found this review/preview helpful.

Enjoy your time at our tables.

We see more and more pre-flop action as players try to steal the 12k/24k blinds and 4k antes.

Lacay and Hichem raise the next to hands but fail to find callers. Next Spindler raises it up to 55k and O’Dea reraises, and Splinder moves all in.

Next pot is between Spindler and Adrian Marin, Splinder raises to 60k Marin Calls Flop

Splinder Bets 90k, Marin shoves, Splinder folds.

Blinds are currently 15k/30k with 5000 antes. Three handed pot between Splinder, Adrian Marin, and Ludovic Lacey. Board is..

All three players check the flop and turn, Splinder bets 80k on the turn Lacey calls, Adrian Marin reraises to 260k, Splinder folds, Lacey folds, Adrian Marin shoes a and takes down the pot with only a pair of fours.

Next Huge hand is between Splinder and the Irishman O’Dea. Preflop raise from Splinder 60k. O’Dea calls and the flop is a…

both players check the turn. Turn is a…

Splinder bets 170k, O’Dea calls again. River…

O’Dea bets 280K and Splinder tanks for several minutes before making the call. O’Dea turns over the nut straight.

Splinder only shakes his head without saying much. Crippled from before the break, Benny Spindler pushed all-in for his last 280,000. Ludovic Lacay thought for a moment and called in the small blind, Christophe Savary folded behind him.

Splinder:
Lacay:

An “Ooooh” from the crowd as Lacay took the pot on the river knocking out Spindler. Lacay now has 2.6 million in chips.

Next hand is between Lacey and O’Dea for approx 200k and wins with an ace high on a board.

O’Dea controlling the table and battling it out with Adrian Marin. Board shows , while O’Dea is betting 100k on the flop, 100k on the turn, and 270k on the river. Only to see Adrian Marin fold on the river.

With only 5 players left blinds are 20k/40k with 5k antes, Adrian Marin seems to be the shortest stack at the table as O’Dea raises pots to steal the blinds, rather successfully.

Adrian Marin pushes once and nobody calls. Adrian Marin pushes a second time and again no callers.

Julien Arneodo stays in the game and doubles up against the French man Lacey for 700k with vs Lacay’s

Christophe Savary wins the next pot against O’Dea with a 170k bet on the flop.

Adrian Marin moves all in one more time with a…

Christophe Savary calls with a pair of red..

Showdown

Adrian Marin is knocked out in 5th place and we are down to 4 players at this years WPT Marrakech Main Event.

Next hand is interesting, heads up pot between Julien Arneodo and Ludovic Lacay, small pre flop raise from Lacay and a call from Arneodo. Flop…

Lacay bets 170k, Julien reraises 400k, Lacey moves all in, Julien folds.

With the board reading Eoghan O’Dea bet 340k on the river into Ludovic Lacay.

Christophe Savary raised up a hand pre flop, Lacey calls flop…

Christophe Savary makes a bet of 170k, Lacay moves all in Christophe folds then for some reason shows his pocket

Lacay made the call but could only smile and muck when O’Dea turned over for the nut straight.

O’Dea looks to be the slight chip leader at almost 3 million, Lacay has just a little less.

On the button and the short stack, Julien Arneodo shoved in for 430,000. Small blind Eoghan O’Dea quickly made the call as Lacay ducked out from the small blind. Arneodo tabled , and he was racing for his tournament life against the baby pair

One card at time, the dramatic dealer ran out a flop of
Half of the room erupted with, “Jack! Jack!” as their man had taken a big lead and was looking good to double up. The other half of the room was yelling for a four, but their cries would not be answered. The turn and river were blanks for O’Dea, and he’s sent a double up over to Arneodo.

Ludovic Lacay raised to 110,000 from the button, Christophe Savary called in the small blind.

The flop was and Savary check-called a bet of 125,000. Both players checked the turn before Savary led for 450,000 on the river.

Lacay moved all-in and Savary instantly called with as Lacay could only show for a backdoor flush. Savary is the new chip leader.

Right before the break Lacay won a few hands and is climbing up in chips, but still has a long way to go.

Who will be the player that wins 4th place?

We will see right after the break.

Blinds go up to 30k/60K with 5K antes.

Next hand is an interesting hand between the two chip leaders. Eoghan O’Dea Raises to 140 from the button and gets called by Christophe Savary sitting in the big blind. Flop comes down

Christophe Savary bets 260k, O’Dea raises 550k, Savary pushes all in and increases his lead when O’Dea folds.

Next hand is rather similar without a showdown when Savery raises pre flop to 140K, Lacay calls flop…

Both players check and the turn is a

Savary checks Lacay bets 150K and Savery folds.

Julien Arneodo makes a few pre flop raises but finds no callers, but just a few hands later both Julien Arneodo and Lacay go in pre flop.

Julien Arneodo shows a
Lacay shows a

Don’t blink, take a look at the showdown.

Julien is out in 3rd position for a nice €105,259 and the Frenchman Lacay is still in there but trailing in 3rd place.

WOW! What a brilliant hand. Catch this one between Eoghan O’Dea and Christophe Savary. O’Dea on the button raises 160k, Christophe Savary raises it up to 330k, O’Dea calls. FLOP!

O’Dea thinks for a minute then goes all in. Christophe Savary quickly calls and shows a..

O’Dea turns over a

The turn signaled the Irishman’s double up. The river meaning nothing. O’Dea and Savary both have about 3.1 million, Lacay with about 1.9 million.

Christophe Savary made a raise to 160,000 from the button, and Julien Arneodo quickly folded his small blind. In the big, though, Ludovic Lacay peeked at his cards and slid all ~1.4 million of his chips across the betting line. It didn’t take Savary long to make the call, putting Lacay at risk for what was possibly the first time in this tournament. As a crowd of spectators craned their necks over the rail, the cards were turned up.

Showdown
Savary:
Lacay:

The flop was not very good at all for Lacay as it fell . A rustle of multilingual banter trickled through the audience, now shoulder-to-shoulder, three-deep around the entire perimeter of the table.

Turn:

That’s all she wrote for Lacay, now drawing stone dead to Savary’s nut flush. The river completed the board. Lacay cringed a bit, shook hands with the two men who’ve outlasted him, and headed off to become a spectator himself.

Lacay put on a fine show here this week, crushing the field for more than a full day. In the end though, his bid for his first WPT title has fallen two spots shy. His third-place showing is good for €164,182. That’s not too bad, but Lacay is clearly disappointed by that result.

Next up… WPT MARRAKECH HEADS UP

As the final two players battle it out, we are anxiously awaiting the final hand of the WPT Marrakech 2009, definitely the most successful WPT event outside of the United States. Each day we have seen the many of the best poker players from around the world pack the Casino De Marrakech for some world class poker.

O’Dea wins the first battle, Eoghan O’Dea raised to 210,000 from the button and Christophe Savary rereaised to 580,000 total. O’Dea, son of the famous Donnacha, thought for two minutes before announcing he was all-in.

The play shifted back across to Savary and he shifted a little, uncomfortable in his chair. It wasn’t so much the glare of the lights, but the size of the push which forced Savary to give up the pot.

Savary: 4.75 million
O’Dea: 3.57 million

Christophe Savary made it 160,000 from the button and Eoghan O’Dea reraised to 420,000 from the big blind. Savary made the call and the two saw a flop of .

O’Dea led out for 400,000 and Savary reraised all-in. O’Dea thought for a minute and called, was this it?

O’Dea:
Savary:

The turn was the making the nut straight for Savary leaving O’Dea drawing dead, the river was little more than an afterthought. Irishman O’Dea goes home in second place with €262,446 to comfort him after he falls just short of taking the title as well.

Meet the Poker Diva 0

Thursday October 15th, 2009 at 8:38 pm

While in Marrakesh I was lucky enough to spend some time with the Liz, Chilipoker’s Poker Diva.

Nicknamed the Poker Diva by fellow poker players because of her flair for style, Liz has developed quite a unique image at the tables. Her petite frame and fashionable appearance may be deceiving because when the cards are dealt, her aggressive style, serious demeanor, and killer instincts take over.

She is a competitor at heart, and she will just as easily take your chips as share a laugh with you when the game is over. Liz is mainly a cash game player, but just as easily enjoys the tournament circuit.

Liz like myself is an avid twitter user, who loves to stay connected and also blog!!! @Liz Lieu

I watched Liz do two interviews this week, and really enjoyed watching her in front of the camera.  One  interview was with our friends from Spain, the crew at PokerNet.es that interview was lot of fun, both Liz and Gerard X really enjoyed doing the interview. Gerard X is a fun character but is a little camera shy. The other was with they guys from Poker Texano. Liz is professional, fun and a pleasure to be around. No wonder everyone wants a autograph, picture or interview.

For all you fans I am posting a gallery of Liz Lieu Photos. Enjoy!

Interview with Astic Rémy of Spank Poker 4

Wednesday October 14th, 2009 at 8:51 pm

A.k.A Alfman26

A.k.A Alfman26

Spank Poker Club have really been a dominating force during some of the minor events here at the WPTMarrakech, alfman26 for example was certainly excited when he busted out two pro players to win a bounty during the Pro-AM event, he then continued his run and finished in second place, both an excellent result and a super experience for this upcoming poker player.

I also had a moment in between events to interview Astic Rémy and Secretary of the Spank Poker Club, who has just qualified for the main event via a Super Satellite that was played during the early hours of yesterday morning. Rémy started playing poker back in January of 2008, at the time he was playing two popular trick taking French card games Belote and Tarot. A friend of his from Paris suggested Poker and introduced him to the club. Since then he has been a regular at the club and is now in the the Club Secretary. One of his main roles is to help organize one of the 4 club tournaments that Spank have every year.

I asked him what the club is like, and he said its a really fantastic club because of the social events, everyone is in good spirits and are ready to have fun and enjoy good times. Besides that he said the members of the club are really competitive especially with the rake and raking races that they have going on.
” It’s not about the money , winning is a matter of pride!” Rémy tells me.

spank1I asked him about his strategy during the satellite tournament that won him a ticket to the Main Event.

113 players played, there were 28 re-buys and 10 add-ons. 17 people qualified. He suggested that since it was a full table tournament in the beginning of the tournament he waited for only good cards, while watching the other players. He noted some players making strange moves so he decided to play simple ABC poker. With 38 players left it seemed like everyone was tighter because it was almost bubble time. His stack at this stage was 49,000 and the average was 33,000. With only 23 players left Rémy manged to jump his stack to 60,000 and now it was time to wait. Waiting lasted 2-3 hours until it was down to 18 players and he had won his seat to the main event!!

I also asked him what made the difference and he said he built up a strong image with the following hand, blinds are 200/400 and player raises 1650 in early position, big blind calls, Rémy suggest he either had a big hand or he was making a move. So he just calls with pocket tens 1010. Flop comes down Qs 10s 7c big blind folds and the other player check raises Rémy 3000 bet up to 9000. Rémy looks down at his stack of 11,000 and goes all in. Committed his opponent calls  and shows 8 5 for a pure bluff. From then on people noticed that Rémy was sponsored  by Chilipoker and the other players seemed afraid to play a hand with him.

spank2“What about your strategy for the main event” I asked, he agreed it would be a very difficult field so he would be keeping his expectations in check. Over the past few days he has been watching videos and is taking the time to study his competition. The structure is nice for the Main Event, so the pro players will have an edge over the armatures he says.

We with him and Spank the best of luck!
(especially our friend alfman26 who will attempt to qualify for the main event tonight)

Stay focused, enjoy the game and may all your hands hold up.

1small_MG_0208.sjpg_500_300_0_70_1_0_0.sjpgI had a quick walk around the tables of the €1800 Side Event and looked around for some familiar faces. Liz Lieu (Poker Diva) and Annette Obrestad (Annette_15) don’t seem to be doing very well.

Roger Hairabedian otherwise know as the Terminator is currently ranked as one of the top players in France at the moment. Unfortunately for him he ended on the bubble at the High Roller event and is now seated at the €1800 Side Event.

Danilo Colombia from Italy is seated at the same table as French superstar Fabrice Soulier, other well know faces include Chilipoker Team Players Gerardx and Rozyo from Spain.

Good luck all, as we hope to see some of our pro’s at the final table.

So the tables turn, two action hands have really changed the dynamics of the High Roller Final Table in Marrakech. The first hand was between Nagib Bennis and Tiago Nishima,  a classic AA vs KK hand whereby Tiago found himself at the bottom end of the hand with his pair of Kings. Tiago busts out in 9th place.

Next hand is also huge. Thomas Bichon is at the table with a huge stack raised and gets called by Ross Boatman of the Hendon Mob. Flop comes down K92, Thomas Bichon over bets and gets put all in by Ross Boatman who shows a pair of 99. Thomas Bichon is very disappointed and throws his 22 on the table without improving his hand.

Boatman is now chip leader at the final table of the High Roller Event.
