I got a Feeling…. 0

Monday October 12th, 2009 at 4:17 pm

…That tonight’s gonna be a good night, that tonight’s gonna be a good good night!

I am sitting here in the Chilipoker Lounge togheter with my colleagues and I listen to Severin singing this song.
He is very excited and so are we. In less than one hour we will have the opportunity to see some lucky guy (or girl :-) ) fighting for success. The PRO-AM NHL Freezout is about to start. Who shall I support? I cannot make my mind!

Liz Lieu will be there togheter with Tony G, Annette Oberstadt and my boss, Alexandre Dreyfus….hard choice.
I will say Alexandre is already a winner: The first WPT in Marrakech is big news. Everybody is having fun and it is fantastic walking through a hall full of smiling people. We are really having a good time.

I just cannot wait for the 4 most popular words to be said: SHUFFLE UP AND DEAL!!

Day 1 & 2 of The Moroccan Poker Championship 0

Monday October 12th, 2009 at 2:08 pm

Casino EntranceMany thanks for all the positive feedback we are getting with Chiliblog and the WPT Live Reporting websites.  Both the casino and the WPT venue are impressive. Outside the casino you can see that the clientèle here are well off, really well off or unbelievably  rich! I mean you can just tell from the cars parked outside. The latest models of Audi, Mercedes, BMW’s, Hummer, Bentley,  Austin Martin and Ferraris are parked outside. The minimum stake is above average from my experience and you know how much I love going to the casinos!

OK so back to the events in mention. The first events are basically being considered a side event to the main event:

Saturday 10th October
Day 1 of the Morocco Championship NLH Freezeout €900
Sunday 11th October
Day 2 of the Morocco Championship NLH Freezeout €900
Sunday 11th October
Day 1 of the Morocco Championship NLH Freezeout €500
Monday 12th October
Day 2 of the Morocco Championship NLH Freezeout €500

Chilipoker TableI am still waiting for the results of the above mentioned events, but I hope to have them to you shortly.

Please note that both the Chiliblog (FR) and Live Reporting (FR) are also available in French. If one had to compare the English Blogs to the French Blogs the English would be an outsiders look at the events of the week because it’s mainly being run by the Chilipoker Staff and the French would be an insiders look at the event because the bloggers are mainly players.  Some of you are smart enough to be able to read both. Fantastic! On the other hand I only speak English :( But I have improved my French skills quite a bit since I have been here.

The poker venue is just perfect, 40 tables and a capacity of 400 people. Not including the featured table and the poker tables at the casino. OK, so here is what happened last night….

VenueFirst a 5 Star buffet dinner at the Essaadi Palace, whereby the choice of food was absolutely fantastic. From starter, to main course and desert the selection was endless. At the dinner table were several of the players that were sponsored by Chilipoker to play the Morocco Championship NLH Freezeout €500, next to me several of the Madeinpoker team as well, who also would be playing the event. Right across the room I could see several familiar poker faces having dinner, you know the people on repetition when your watching the poker channel. I was introduced to Tony G, Fabrice Soulier and Roger Hairabedian. After a very good dinner and some wine we headed to the poker room for the side event.

I meet up with the players that would be playing the event and wished them the best of luck, here is a breakdown of the players we were watching extra closely, why we are watching and whats happened thus far:

Morocco Championship NLH Freezeout €500
Cyril Fievet
from MadeinPoker.com
Jami Juutila qualified on Chilipoker.com (iPoker)
Christophe Costes qualified on MadeinPoker.com
Jean Christophe Rigal qualified on Chilipoker.com (iPoker)
Christer Jannson qualified on Chilipoker.com (iPoker)
Simon Rouviere French Poker Club winner and 3 of his friends played as well
Julien Meyer qualified on Chilipoker.com (iPoker)

The gossip thus far before the start of day 2 is as follows, Simon Rouviere has busted but one of his three friends is still in the event, Christophe Costes busted Liz Lieu with a set of kings to pocket aces only to also bust in 46th place, Julien Meyer had two unfortunate hands and is also out of the event, Cyril busted earlier then expected short staked KJ vs AK, Jami Juutila is also out.

So lets give a shout out to the only chili left in the event.  GO! Jean-Chrisophe Rigal….

Take it down Jean!

What shall I wear today? 0

Monday October 12th, 2009 at 3:32 am

How many times have you asked yourself this question? I bet Billions.

Tonight I have been  going around the tables and have been stopping to check what these players were wearing.

The answer is there and everyone can agree: no matter what nationality you are, what language you speak, where you come from. Live poker is filled with players wearing sunglasses, headphones, hats. These three accessories sometimes become part of you, of your Poker Face :-)

I am wondering if tomorrow Tony G will wear his small round orange sunglasses….

Obliviously wearing sunglasses or listening to music is a way to hide your emotions and get as distant as you can from giving your hand away, but it is also a way to create a character, to impress the other players at the table.

Here right now, half way through the tournament (100 players left) I can easily spot 20 players wearing sunglasses, 3 players wearing hats and 20 listening to their music.

The only music I hear at the moment is the sound of all these players playing with their chips, another way to release stress and distract the opponent. This is the one I like the most.

What’s your style at the table then?

Skills Vs Luck or Diva Vs Divo?? 0

Christophe AKA ctofquestla

Christophe AKA ctofquestla

Back from the tables with some bad news :-(

I went straight to Liz’s table and my timing was almost perfect. There was a good hand going on…very nice in fact.

The flop was already on the table and I arrived when it was Liz’s turn to bet. She raised a previous bet and got called by Christopher (alias ctofquestla) and I said Wow! a heads up with one of our qualified Chilipoker players!

It doesn’t happen that often to be able to play with a Pro, face to face, does it?
How many times have you dreamt about being at the same table with a PRO and actually winning it? That is my favorite dream at night and one of our players realized it.

Back to the game, I concentrated on the turn. It was a King. Liz looked good but I could feel her asking herself…what if he has pocket Kings?…Anyway she made a really good bet and was instantly called by him.

Something was going on….and I knew she had a very strong hand….

Then it was her time to bet again….i could sense the All-in coming…and there it was: Divo Vs Diva, this time with their cards visible to everyone. Liz had pocket Aces and Christopher….pocket Kings.

The End. Liz got eliminated with aces against three Kings. Fair enough, there are still Pro-AM, The High Roller and the Main WPT Event. Honestly, you cannot have it all ;-)

Congrats to Christopher! I met his girlfriend on the way back from the tables and she is now here, sitting on my left.

I asked her what she had to say and the reply was “We will all go and have champagne on us  if he wins!!”

Guess who my favorite player is right now? GO CHRISTOPHER!!!

Let the action begin! 0

Monday October 12th, 2009 at 1:15 am

Hello All!

How to begin to describe this wonderful experience? No words will be good enough but I’ll try :-) )

I always watched Big events like this on TV because I never had the opportunity (or the skills) to be able to actually play one and now I am here, in a glamorous city, among so many poker players coming from all over the world.

The feeling is amazing. We just finished dinner, had coffee and a very nice chat with players coming from France, Switzerland, Spain and USA!. It was funny listening to poker stories all narrated in different languages…everyone had his own but the passion was the same and now I sit here, in the press room of the WPT Marrakesh watching over 150 players playing the side event.

The room is bright, colorful and full of smiling excited players! I wish good luck to all of them but especially to my favorite player, guess who?….. Liz Lieu!!!!

Let me go and check out the tables, will come back soon.

Au revoir!

French Poker Club Players Arrive in Marrakech. 1

Sunday October 11th, 2009 at 8:00 pm

Airport-ImpressionsWelcome poker fans and thanks for visiting. During the week please visit the special WPT Marrakech Live Reporting website for live tournament updates, video clips, photos and player chip counts. Furthermore, each day while we are here in the lovely city of Marrakech we will be using this space for blogging and rounding up a collection on photos to share with you all.

My first impressions of  Marrakech were absolutely amazing, everyone is so friendly and the place has class. The pink city is known for it’s snake charmers, magic potions, hidden palaces. So I’m really looking forward to having a good look around and sharing the experience with you. First stop this morning was at the Aeroport Marrakech Menara to pick up the 6 Poker Club players from all around France that qualified with Chilipoker. Each lucky player besides having all expenses paid (including hotel, flights and a €4,500 buy-in to the main event) was able to bring 3 friends, so in total there was 24 people to pick up from the airport.

WelcomeUnfortunately one of the players missed his flight (we won’t mention any names) hope that player will have more luck at the main event. Finally the poker players came made it threw the often hectic passport control and was greeted by the Chilipoker staff Ophelie, Alex Henry and myself.  We said our hello’s and all jumped in to the taxis to head off to the hotel.

Everyone (including myself) seemed really excited to be here and the car every one was having a laugh on behalf of one of the players who ended up “bubble boy” at one of the recent European Poker Tour Events.

Ophelie was giving a breakdown of this weeks events, including a shopping trip to the famous Souk Market, maybe some camel rides, a tour around Marrakech on quad bikes, a Chilipoker party and some action packed poker tournaments, side games, satellites and cash games. The players were surprised to hear about the structure of the cash games here in Marrakech, as they uniquely feature a 90 minute time window before any player can leave the table with any cash that he has won. An odd but interesting cash game structure.

Horse-taxiOn the way from the airport the scene outside was really interesting. Lot’s of motorbikes zooming on both sides, the highest palm trees I have ever seen, olive trees, camels, horses and carriages and much more unusual architecture.  The drive from the airport to the hotel took no more then 20 minutes.  We all stepped out of  the car to sign the players into the hotel room that we had booked for them.

As we waited for the rooms to be ready, I had a chat with a few of the players that will be blogging on the French WPT Blog and I was rather happy to find out that a few of the players knew me from the work I do on behalf of Chilipoker on social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook. The players were interested (I was going to say happy but I don’t think its appropriate in this case) to know that there was going to be a host of professional poker players at the invitational Pro-AM event being played on Monday including, Liz Lieu,  Annette Obrestad, Antonio Esfandiari, Elky, Tony G, Fabrice Soulier and our very own Alex Dreyfus.

As a matter of fact as I am writing this blog,  Roger Hairabedian and another popular French Pro Poker Player (forgot his name) is playing at a table right in front me.

The players seemed keen to go check out the venue Es Saadi Resort and the Casino de Marrakech, so we got together for a group photo and headed off to the Casino.  Now it’s time for a lamb and couscous  I will be back later with another update from The Casino in Marrakech…

For the lucky players who qualified it’s big money in Marrakech or Bust, so good luck and enjoy the ride!
